Small business SEO Guidelines, helpful hints!

Small businesses today are becoming more aware of internet marketing. They need to understand and apply at least the basics of search engine optimization. If you are a small business owner and are unsure of the basics then read on and get some useful knowledge about search engine optimization. These helpful hints and facts will give you the answers you need without having to access and pay for high-level consulting.

1. Time. The first step is to dedicate some time into your search engine optimization. You have to be committed to the process otherwise you will not succeed. Search engine algorithms is constantly changing therefore you are the one that needs to be committed.

2. Goals. Think to yourself, what do I want to achieve? What outcome would you like to see when you have put in so much commitment and effort? Do research and use a web analytics system to track your progress. You will be able to then identify what to do and what not to do.

3. Website.
Is your website up to scratch? The golden rule is to have a website that will end up on the first page of Google, Yahoo! and MSN. Do you believe your competitor’s website is better than yours? Is your website one of the top ten in the world?

4. Patience. Results often take time. Even to be indexed may take up to 3-6 weeks. If you’re a smaller business and you have just entered the industry then it may take you longer to be familiar with the concept.

5. Your URL. Does it sound SEO friendly? A tip is not to use underscores and over do it with 3 or more hyphens. It may appear to look too much like spam.

6. Site map. Remember to include a site map page otherwise the “spiders” can’t index pages that can’t be crawled. A site map is highly needed and will help “spiders” to find all the important pages on your site.

7. Meta tag. Make sure you are using a unique and relevant title and meta description on every page. The most important page is your title page for SEO. Your ranking does not really contribute to your meta description but will be seen as a small paragraph in your listing. Make sure you include relevant keywords in your meta description and so that it will attract searchers to view your website.

8. Be unique. Check if your content is unique by writing a description of what you are selling that is different to your competitors. You want to stand out and not have the exact same descriptions as everyone else selling the same product. Use your keyword research to incorporate this into your description.

9. Link Building. Linking building is very important to create back links to your website. Submit your website to free shareware sites, make sure you link to relevant websites similar to yours. This is time consuming but it works!

10. Anchor text. Use your keywords as anchor text when linking internally. Anchor text helps the “spiders” by telling them about what the linked-to page is about. Links that are clickable on do nothing for your search engine visibility.

Google’s search results now show prices
One of Google’s features that I have recently noticed is the prices shown in your search results. With this featured added into Google’s operating system you can now just simply search something you want to buy and prices come up instantly. When you select the option “prices from the page”, Google will try to pull out prices from the web page result, for the query you entered. This will save you so much time looking through every website!

Google, Yahoo! and MSN fights click fraud!
Click fraud is a pain but recently the major search engines have been commended by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) for helping to reduce click fraud. Click fraud is one of the biggest problems for search engine advertising indicating around 22% of all search engine clicks.

With Google, Yahoo! and MSN passing audits for their Click Measurement Guidelines more can be done to regulate click-count measurement across media companies. With guidelines in place this will help achieve to eliminate and identify fraudulent clicks, measure valid clicks and establish parameters for the accurate buying and selling of cost per click advertising.

With having our three major search engines involved and comply with the IAB guidelines, it is a step closer to reducing click fraud.

Bing’s click share is rising
After Microsoft Bings launch in June the click share has risen 44% according to a report from Efficient Frontier. It really looks positive for Microsoft after the launch and studies show that Bing did particularly well in travel and finance categories. With new figures and statistics arising from all around, it seems intense. Will we see even better results after the Yahoo! and Microsoft deal?
I think it’s good to know Google has now got some competition on board. With Bing doing well hopefully we will be able to see lower click prices.

PPC Management Tips: How to use the right tools to manage you keywords effectively

Keyword management is one of the most difficult parts of PPC management. You have to choose the right keywords, set match types and also be sure not to neglect special cases like negative keywords or even misspellings words. All of this can be really stressful no matter if you are new to search marketing or been in the industry for years.

There are many ways to approach this. One is to manage your keywords effectively in order to stay with the rest of the competitors, without spending too much time and money. Try to filter your keywords by differentiating competitive keywords.

Normally your PPC account contains keywords that is very competitive or less competitive. For example, in 1 account there are a total of 1000 keywords, 100 of them is competitive and the rest is less competitive. This can be determined by many factors depending on personal preference, you can judge the keywords competitiveness by number of clicks, number of impressions, cost of the keyword or ROI.

So the question is, how can you manage your keywords effectively in order to stay with the rest of the competitors? Here is the answer, split your account into two. One account for competitive keywords and the other for less competitive keywords.

Why use this approach? The most comment mistake that people make is updating ALL their keywords frequently no matter if its competitive or not. This is not the correct strategy by using Pay Per Click for an effective result. We highly recommend you to separate your competitive and non- competitive keywords into two different accounts so that you can manage and customize each group of keywords. This way you can use different strategies for both accounts.

For example, your competitive keywords can be set in the scheduler to update every 6 hours, whereas your non-competitive keywords can be set in the scheduler to update every 24hours. As a result you can monitor how well each account of keywords is performing. By not updating your non competitive keywords as frequently you are also saving your Google API quota.

We have the right tools for you to get started! With our PPC BidMax you can optimize your account and keywords with just a few clicks.

Here are the steps you need to take:

• You can do so by downloading the same account in PPC Bidmax and manage the competitive keywords in one account and the non-competitive. If you have already created an account with all your campaigns and keywords then all need to do is duplicate the same account by creating selecting “New Account”.

• Once you have uploaded all the information into the software, please dedicate one account for your competitive keywords and one for your non- competitive keywords. For example you can name the file (E.g. 123compeitive keywords and 123non competitive keywords).

• Go into the competitive keyword account, under the “Optimize” column tick the competitive keyword you want to update more frequently and make sure the non-competitive keywords is un-ticked. (This means only the competitive will update when you schedule it to).

• You might have to do the same with the non-competitive account so that your keywords still update, but less frequently so that you do not waste your API quota.

• Please don’t forget to edit your scheduler once you set the account by clicking “Edit account-> Scheduler->under the drop down button choose the time you want to frequently update per account”.
